It was the Cedar City Children’s Musical Theatre’s first performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and the directorial debut of Jewly Krause, who has been changing scripts, scenes wardrobes and lives ever since. Once upon a time, nearly ten years ago, on stage not too far away, a tale as old as time began between a beauty, a beast and their unlikely, but extraordinary love story. The show begins at 7:00 PM, Friday October 7 at Community Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 2279 N Wedgewood Lane, Cedar City. He is a welcome addition to the Cedar City acoustic music scene. This past summer Burton took a position teaching Outdoor Rec at SUU and moved to Cedar City from the mountains of Wyoming. As such, I've happily embraced the hobbyist musician label and have pursued other interests, though I do still consider myself a serious songwriter.”īurton’s other interests also include all types of outdoor recreation. He says, “It was a big learning experience for me in that I got to tour a bit and realized the grind of that lifestyle wasn't for me. The band was signed to a record deal and opened for Lyle Lovett, The Old 97s, and others. In the late 90s and early 2000s, he played mandolin and fiddle in the Union City All-Stars. Current influences include Caroline Spence and Jason Isbell. His guitar voicings lend credence to the heartfelt beat of his songs.īurton says his early musical influences include Paul Simon's Graceland and John Prine's self-titled debut album as touchstones of the songwriting world. His songs evoke a land and people touched by the natural world in ways most can only imagine. His previous album, “Kentuckian”, tells stories of life in the coal mining district of Kentucky.īorn in Michigan and raised in Kentucky coal country, Burton started playing the violin in 4th grade, picked up guitar in high school and started writing songs. His most recent EP, the roots and bluegrass-flavored “ Last of the Old West” views the changing land- and culture-scape of the western US through a folksinger’s eyes. Burton has a number of albums and EPS to his credit.
